Methodology & Standards

Hz Research Lab was established to address a specific problem: the sound therapy industry is dominated by unverified claims, while clinical acoustic research remains locked behind paywalls.

Our Testing Standards

When we review hardware (like tuning forks or singing bowls), we don't rely on subjective feelings of "energy" or "clearing." We use calibrated equipment to measure:

  • Fundamental Frequency Stability: Does the 128 Hz tuning fork actually strike at 128 Hz, and does it hold that frequency as it decays?
  • Total Harmonic Distortion (THD): How pure is the sine wave produced by the instrument?
  • Decay Rate: How many seconds does the audible signal last before dropping below the ambient noise floor?

Research Review Process

When analyzing claims about specific frequencies (e.g., 432 Hz or 528 Hz), we apply a strict filter:

  1. We discard anecdotal reports and blog posts.
  2. We seek out peer-reviewed studies in journals of audiology, neurology, and physiology.
  3. We examine the methodology: Was there a control group? Was it double-blind? Was the sample size larger than a pilot study?
  4. We explicitly state the difference between in vitro (in a petri dish) and in vivo (in a living human) results.

The Problem with "Healing Frequencies"

Sound is a mechanical wave. It can induce relaxation via the parasympathetic nervous system (often measured via Heart Rate Variability). It can drive brainwave entrainment (measured via EEG). These are measurable, profound effects.

However, claims that specific frequencies can "target" specific organs or "repair DNA" in a living human are currently unsupported by rigorous clinical trials. We believe that overstating the effects of sound therapy damages its credibility as a legitimate adjunct wellness tool.
